The history of pizza in Kitchissippi (and Ottawa)

My article in July's Kitchissippi Times fit into the overall theme of the issue, which was pizza! Of course my monthly column "Early Days" is meant to focus on Kitchissippi related history, but it was tempting to try to dig up the full history of pizza in Ottawa. So I did quite a bit of research to try to nail down the first time pizza showed up in Ottawa, the first dedicated pizzeria, the first to offer delivery, the first place to get it in the neighbourhood, etc. It's a lot of information and pizza-related history squeezed into one article! The main portion of the story tells a bit of the story of David Presley (who deserves far more than just a few paragraphs of one article!). One of the most interesting people I've ever chatted with, David has lived and breathed carnivals in Ottawa and throughout North America since his childhood. Probably no one out there that knows more about the old CCE/Super Ex, and he saw it from the trenches for many, many years running his booth selling Cicero's Pizza.

Anyways, this was a fun article to write, and I hope you enjoy it!

  2. If you have diabetes, it's important that you adjust both your lifestyle and your diet by learning which diabetic foods to avoid. Diabetes is a condition caused by a lack of insulin production within your body which is normally created by your pancreas. This is an important function since it's responsible for turning your glucose into energy. If you're diabetic, then you need to pay particular attention to your eating habits and try to eat foods that have high amounts of fiber and are low in fat. little caesars for diabetic menu

  4. Still wishing & praying Cicero's pizza would come back to Ottawa Ontario! Myself, my family and many friends, would do anything just to eat a Cicero pizza again. We ate these pizzas for so many years. First had Cicero pizza on Richmond Rd in Ottawa, then they moved to Bank st in Ottawa. We must of had Ciceros pizza at least 4 times a week, but probably more! Before we die? Or dying wish is to have a large Ciceros pizza once again. Never in our lifes has any other pizza had this effect on so many people, of how we still urge for Ciceros pizza! No other pizza place can ever come close to duplicating a Ciceros pizza! If someone out there knows the family who made these unforgettable mouth watering best pizzas in the world? Please, please, tell the family of Ciceros pizza to please open back up in Ottawa Ontario I can guarantee you will be very rich in the 1st few months if opening a Ciceros pizza store! Anyone who can even give us the exact recipe on how to make the exact Ciceros pizza, from exactly how to make dough, spices, sauce, pepperoni, everything exactly? Would be so highly appreciated and forever grateful. So many of us are still craving this pizza even after all these years, I'm talking about 1000s of people I personally know, that are still badly craving your pizzas.

  5. Hello the reason why the Cicero's pizza is so loved is because everything is made from scratch .
The only item that was from a can was the pizza sauce.
All the ingredients were cut from real onions and peppers and pepperoni was cut from
a deli quality roll of meat.
All ingredients were fresh and cut daily.
I worked at the Bank and Gilmour Cicero's
