The Birth & History of Wellington Village (aka West Wellington)

This week in the Kitchissippi Times is the first of my new regular column called "Early Days", which will be published every second issue, covering - you guessed it - local history.

This week's column is one which I'd been looking forward to sharing - the little-known history of my neighbourhood, Wellington Village. It includes an amazing story of how the lots were originally sold off, and how the community began.

Please check it out at http://kitchissippi.com/history-of-wellington-village-ottawa/

In the meantime, I am working on more posts for this blog, I apologize that there has been a bit of a lull in fresh content. I've had my hands full on a major renovation project, and have sadly had to put all my (much more fun) history work on a bit of a hold. I expect to have a new post up in the next few days.

Thanks for reading! Cheers!

Just passing along that I will be live in studio at CBC Radio Ottawa on Tuesday April 7th around 8:15 for a 7-8 minute interview on "Ottawa Morning". We'll be discussing local history and the blog a little, and specifically Ottawa's archives and museums, and the new shared database.  CBC Radio is at 91.5 FM on the dial. Thanks!

The history & vanishing of the local corner store in Kitchissippi!

Today is an exciting day, as my article in the Kitchissippi Times is the cover story! I really enjoyed researching and writing this article, and I think it has universal appeal - not just for Kitchissippi residents, but for anyone. Please check out the article at the Kitchissippi Times website at:
