In this month's Kitchissippi Times, I've uncovered a long-lost story about our area that would have given Kitchissippi a completely different makeup and history had it gone through. A handful of church representatives and a poorly attended meeting are responsible for altering the course of history, landing Beechwood Cemetery in New Edinburgh instead of in the heart of Westboro.
It was a done deal that Beechwood was to be located in Westboro, but before any plots were dug and caskets carried out Richmond Road by horse and wagon, some late protests saw the issue take storm throughout the city, and ultimately led to the switch out to the east end.
I love these "what if" stories, and for Westboro's history, there is perhaps none bigger than this one.
Enjoy :)
